WWTP Ahlen, Germany
Project: Integration of a MCFC fuel cell on the WWTP Ahlen, Germany
On many wastewater treatment plants generated digester gas becomes used in combined heat and power plants (CHP-units). With the plant in Ahlen it is succeeded, to realize the first temperature fuel cell pan-European, which used sewage gas for fuel. ...
Since summer 2006 the Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell is in use and delivers, subject to actual sewage gas (approx 1,800m³/d) access, approx 170kW-210kW electrical and 100kW thermal energy. Thus the electrical efficiency is approx 50 %.
The wastewater company oft he municipality of city of Ahlen, the concerns RWE Fuel Cells GmbH and Daimler Crysler AG as well as the federal state of North-Rhine Westphalia (NRW) have taken a stake in the pilot project.
